bbq's
If you want a barbecue with the flexibility to use it as a fireplace when needed, then the BH Open range is for you. This model offers a wire cooking rack, while still being capable of withstanding a roaring fire.
We take the stress out of setup, with all the Artis range including the accessories you need to get started. The BF range includes an Argentinian style grill, paella pan/pizza tray/wok/fry pan support. The BH Oven includes a grill for the firebox, along with a roasting tray and wire rack for the oven. All Fusion model (140, 160 & 200) are also provided with a Paella Pan to suit the model size. All models include a heatproof glove and can of touch up paint.
All Artis BBQ products must be installed sheltered from rain and harsh weather to
prevent premature degradation. If the project is close to a beach, it is best to install somewhere in which it is protected from any sea mist, to prevent rusting. Failure to install as per the requirements of the installation manual will void your products
warranty.
That all depends on your model. The BF Grill Fireplace is perfect for sizzling steaks, chargrilled vegetable skewers, stir frys, paella, and woodfired pizzas just to name a few. The BH oven can be used just like an oven in your kitchen, perfect for roasts, baking bread, or anything else you would normally cook in an oven! If you want something that can do it all, the Fusion range offers the versatility of all of the above features in one spectacular unit!
Yes, you can install the BH Oven indoors, however you must ensure that the installation is performed by a licensed installer, conforming to all the requirements of local councils and AS/NZ 2918 to be compliant.
Not at all! With the Artis BBQ range the choice is yours. We’ve seen some great projects using our range as both freestanding and inbuilt! In a freestanding form you have a variety of bench options, including brick, stone and steel, as long as the base is thick enough to support the weight of the unit, and is a non-combustible material.
fireplaces
Artis barbecues and fireplaces should only ever be used with well-seasoned hardwood. To reduce creosote build-up, wood should have a moisture content of no more than 15%. Wet wood, green leaves, plastic materials, magazines, household waste, and other like materials, should never be used.
Artis fireplaces provide both a primary and secondary air control. The primary air control located below the door is your main adjustment for how much air is delivered to the firebox. More air will mean a bigger fire, but will also use more wood and too big of a fire can damage the unit via overfiring. The secondary air control, located above the door on the left hand side, controls the air wash feature. This accounts for only a small amount of the overall air entering the firebox, but allows the glass panels to stay cleaner using the flow of the air from your secondary control.
The fireplace also allows more control through the use of an adjustable flue damper and multi-speed fans to control heat distribution around the room.
Clearances are minimum required distances from the firebox to combustible materials. Clearances protect heat sensitive materials from being damaged or becoming hazardous from the heat of the fire. Like hearths, each fireplace have different clearance requirements. To determine your clearances, please refer to the most recent edition of your installation manual.
Convective heating works by circulating warm air throughout a room, creating an even, comfortable heat. In a convective fireplace, cool air is drawn into the unit, where it is heated as it passes over the hot surfaces. This warmed air is then released back into the room, gradually raising the ambient temperature. Unlike radiant heating, which warms objects directly, convective heating focuses on warming the air. This heating method provides consistent warmth without the intense, direct heat of radiant systems.
Do not add any more fuel to the fire. Close the primary and secondary air controls, and the damper completely and let the fire gradually burn out.
Do not extinguish the fire by pouring liquid on it. Slow combustion fireplaces are designed to burn all fuel within the firebox and you should be left with only ash and coals after each burn.
Artis fireplaces are designed to be used with natural hardwoods only. Firestarter bricks are acceptable for the initial process when establishing the fire.
Solid mineral fuels (e.g. coals), liquid mineral fuels (e.g. petrol), methylated spirits, creosote treated, green, or moist wood, paper and cardboard, wood shavings and sawdust, and other fuels that may harm the appliance or environment are strictly forbidden.
We recommend using a top down lighting method. Kindling should be stacked in alternating directions, with approximately 4 layers, and firelighter bricks distributed
evenly throughout. Ignite the kindling and firelighter bricks on the top layer, and allow the fire to gradually spread down the stack by itself.
When your fire has spread throughout the initial kindling you can begin to add your logs, being careful to not smother the fire with too much wood stacked too tightly. An initial load of 2-3kg of wood provides a good base of coals.
A hearth is a floor protector used underneath and around a fireplace. It provides protection from the heat radiated from the fireplace, as well as from any materials which may spill out of the fireplace onto the ground.
Each fireplace has different hearth requirements. To determine your required hearth, please refer to the most recent edition of your installation manual.
There are many factors which contribute to the effectivity of a fireplace. The most common causes are insufficient fuel and insufficient air supply to the fire. If your fireplace is not receiving enough air, try adjusting the primary air control, and ensure the ash pan is not so full as to obstruct airflow.
The size of the space, height of the ceiling, and insulation of the space are also factors that will impact heating performance, heat is best distributed by ceiling fans, allowing the air trapped at ceiling height to flow throughout the home.
The fan switch on the Artis M-Series fireplaces has settings for Off, Low, and High. While the fan can be turned off during inactivity, it must always be turned on when the fireplace is in use or still hot. When turned on Low or High, the fan is thermostatically controlled and will turn itself on when the fireplace reaches above 50°, and turn off when it drops below 50°.
Under normal usage the fireplace will use approximately 2-3kg of wood each hour, and the firebox should never exceed more than 1/3 full at any one time. The rate at which wood is burnt will be influenced by how much air is supplied to the firebox.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The fireplaces should be regularly emptied of excess ash in the firebox and ashpan, and the glass cleaned. The fireplace and flue should be checked for any signs of degradation or damage. At least once per year, the flue should be professionally inspected and cleaned, especially prior to the peak period of use.
While it sounds like an outdated concept, chimney sweeps are essential to ensure the efficiency and safety of your fireplace. This ensures the flue is clear of debris or creosote build-up, which can cause dangerous flue fires. Chimney sweeping can be done yourself, but most prefer to entrust this to a professional who can guarantee the quality of their work and inspect the fireplace and flue system for issues at the same time.
We recommend the use of specialist fireplace glass cleaner such as Ruco. For an eco- friendly and cost-effective method, try rubbing the glass with a damp piece of newspaper dipped in fine ash followed by rinsing with clean water.
Never use generic glass cleaners such as Window Cleaning Spray, as this can irreversibly damage special coatings applied to the glass.
Creosote is a by-product of the smoke from a solid fuel fire. It has a black tar like appearance that will gradually build up as you use your fireplace. While this occurs naturally, the use of overly moist wood, incorrect fuel, or incorrect operation can greatly accelerate the rate at which creosote is formed.
Creosote is highly flammable so keeping build ups to a minimum is paramount in ensuring safe operation of your fireplace.
Installation & Warranty
The Artis M-Series fireplaces are a modular design, giving you the choice of installing it wall-mounted or freestanding. To install wall mounted, you must use the supplied wall mount brackets and remove the heat shield at the rear. To install freestanding, the heatshield will remain on the back of the fireplace and wall mounting brackets are not to be used.
While we always recommend professional installation, the licencing requirements vary between states and local councils. Speak to your local stockist to confirm the requirements in your area. In any case, each product must be installed as per the installation manual and AS/NZ2918.
Warranty claims should be submitted through your Artis Fireplaces authorised stockist.
To submit a claim you will require…
- Proof of purchase
- Serial Number of the unit
- Photos and/or videos of the fault
- Compliance Certificate from installation
- Installation details (installation date and installer)
The Artis M-Series fireplaces come with an Australian standard wall plug (Type I) that can be plugged directly into any standard outlet, no need for an electrician! Alternatively, for a more discreet finish, all models can be hardwired into the wall by a licenced electrician.
